Heaton Planning Supports Marathon Mission for Breakthrough T1D

7 April 2025

We are pleased to share that Planning Director Nigel Gould’s son, Lachie, is training to run the 2025 London Marathon to raise money for Breakthrough T1D,formerly known as Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF).

Lachie’s journey with Type 1 Diabetes began when he was just 18 months old. Despite the challenges, the Gould family has always encouraged him to live life to the fullest whether that meant going on adventurous school trips, playing sports, and even visiting remote corners of the globe. Now, at 22, Lachie is taking on a new challenge with the London Marathon, continuing a proud family tradition (four other family members have tackled it before him!).

Training for any marathon is demanding, but balancing blood sugar levels adds another layer of complexity. Lachie has shown remarkable determination in adjusting his workouts to ensure his body can handle the mileage while keeping his blood sugar stable. His hard work, resilience, and optimism truly embody the spirit of the marathon.

By running for Breakthrough T1D, Lachie hopes to give back to an organisation that provided invaluable support when he was first diagnosed. The team here at Heatons couldn’t be more inspired by Lachie’s dedication, and we’ll be cheering him on every step of the way.

If you would like to help Lachie and support the charity’s vital work, consider making a donation. Every contribution helps fund research and support for those living with Type 1 Diabetes. Thank you for taking the time to read his story and for any support you can give. https://www.breakthrought1d.org/
