Heatons has received planning permission from Staffordshire County Council for the redevelopment of part of Cauldon Cement Plant, to enable the fuels depot at the Plant to import and utilise 125,000 tonnes of solid fuel per year. Heatons previously achieved planning permission to construct and operate the fuels depot itself in 2020.
This new permission enables the site to expand its storage capacity to accommodate additional solid fuels, as well as erect a dedicated separation facility in which fuels can be filtered into those with higher and lower calorific values. The separation of fuel, coupled with the infrastructure to utilise more solid fuels, is expected to reduce the Plant’s carbon footprint by up to 18,000 tonnes of CO2 each year.
