Callum is a town planner with several years local authority experience. Before joining Heatons in August 2023, Callum had worked with one of the biggest local authority’s since 2018. In his role as Senior Planning Officer in the Major’s Team, Callum was the lead case officer on some of the Council largest applications.
Callum has a wealth of planning experience in managing applications and achieving success across all areas, including residential, commercial, industrial, and rural development. Callum is also vastly experienced in managing complex sites of all sizes with challenging constraints such as Green Belt allocations and heritage implications. In his previous role, he represented the Local Authority at appeals; negotiated on Section 106 agreements; dealt with EIA matters including undertaking screening and scoping opinions; and, presented dozens of schemes at Planning Committees.
Along with a thorough understanding of planning policy, he also has a passion and talent for design, completing an Urban Design London course in his spare time outside the workplace, whilst also tailoring his degree to regeneration. In terms of education, Callum completed the Master of Planning Degree at Newcastle University.
At Heatons, Callum is involved in helping to expend our residential and commercial team. Callum provides a comprehensive and thorough planning managing applications from the initial advice to securing planning permission and discharging the conditions. Alongside securing permissions, Callum also provides formal strategic advice, conducts site appraisals, and assists colleagues in land promotion through the Local Plan process.
